Interview jumps back and forth between English and Spanish.
Being an artist is the wonderful feeling you get, of creating your art, that I’m able to pay my bills with my paintings is an added thing. The main thing is to enjoy it.
I like to believe that painting is a learning process. It teaches us not only about painting, but about life; To study yourself, and learn about life, to wonder about the universe.
I will say my paintings become calmer as I get older. Not as in happy human being, but I’m pretty content. I think about it more when I’m painting, I do small drawing before I go to paint on the canvas. I think about this drawing and want to make it a painting.
Spanish Speaking….
I had an uncle, Israel, had a box of oil colors. He allowed me to use the box, he allowed me to use his colors. I wouldn’t allow anyone to use my colors, so he was a better man than me.
The first drawings I did were tracing characters. Donald Duck was my favorite.
Even when tracing and getting out of the line, its ok, its accidents, its fine, its part of creativity. You should add to the Donald Ducks you’re creating. Add houses and trees around him, try to build a story. Maybe what happened today was supposed to happen.
