dc.description.abstract The Semantic Web is the next step in the evolution of the Web. The goal of the Semantic Web initiative is to create a universal medium for data exchange where data can be shared and processed by people as well as by automated tools. The thesis presents SEW (Semantic Extensions to Wikipedia), a system that uses the Semantic Web technologies to extract information from the user and store the data along with the semantics. An experiment is carried out and SEW is evaluated for its performance in the real world domain. Semantic Extensions to Wikipedia will serve as a model website empowered by the Semantic Web that would encourage other developers to integrate this powerful technology into their own web applications. en
