Abstract: This research examined the academic success rate of exiting eighth grade students in the state of California from both kindergarten through eighth grade configured schools and sixth through eighth grade configured schools. This study was conducted using publicly available data on the California State Department of Education homepage. The research looks at a three-year comparison of California Standards Tests (CST) for the following subjects: language arts, algebra 1, social science and science. These results were analyzed to determine if there was a relationship between grade configuration and academic success.
