The waters of the Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary contain numerous submerged archaeological and historical sites. Stone artifacts discovered in 18 submerged archaeological sites span the period from some 9,000 years ago to recent history. The remains of shipwrecks cover the period from possibly as early as Cabrillo's voyage (1542-1543) to the present and includes 105 wreck sites. |
